Iguassu Falls FAQ
People ask us about the Iguassu Falls. Here are those FAQ that are important knowing about before you travel there.
FAQ #1) Are the Iguassu Falls suitable for small kids or pregnant women?
One important tip is this is a place to walk a lot in a warm and humid environment so coming here when you’re pregnant (7th to 9th month) or with small kids (aged 6 or less) or with babies can be an inconvenience.
Long walks in rainforest paths far away from bathrooms, drinking water and food sources can put you in trouble with small kids who usually also get tired of walking very soon.
This isn’t to say you can’t come here with small children, there’s so much they can enjoy here! But it means you may not be able to enjoy fully some interesting activities that are not suitable for the smallest ones. Beyond this observation be prepared to enjoy the family vacation getaway of your life, no matter your sex or age.
FAQ #2) Are the Iguassu Falls suitable for persons with walking disabilities?
The answer is a big yes! You can still enjoy your visit to Iguassu Falls. The main walkways in the Argentinean side of the falls are wheel chair friendly. Wheel chairs are provided on the spot if you don’t bring yours. On the Brazilian side, the walkway has some steep stairs that make it inappropriate for wheel chairs but instead you can use the elevators that give you easy access to the main attraction: The Devil's Throat.
FAQ #3) Do I need any vaccines before coming here?
For answers on this please read my page on
Visa and Vaccination Requirements for Iguassu Falls visitors.
FAQ #4) Is this place good for elderly people?
On my frequent visits to the Falls I always see many elderly visitors having a very good time! If you are in good shape there is no problem enjoying all the attractions there. If you are not, there still are many low difficulty activities you can enjoy that will make your day. Remember the doctor’s recommendation: walking is good for your health so the Iguassu Falls are also good for you!
FAQ #5) When is it best coming here?
The natural show of the Iguassu Falls never stops so your family vacation getaway here will be good any time of the year.
One FAQ is if the Iguassu Falls ever dry up. This has happened only twice in 1934 and 1978. Chances are remote that this will happen again. The river flow rate varies greatly depending on rain regimes in south-eastern Brazilian territory but there’s almost always enough water there to keep the main waterfalls at its fullest.
Personally I like to avoid visiting the falls during January and Easter; it’s when the area gets most crowded with visitors. Lodging and eating is also more expensive during the high season.
Water related activities like enjoying swimming pools or going to water parks with the kids are restricted to the warmest months (December through March, see chart below). River rafting and boat rides go on year round.
If you feel uncomfortable with warm weather, winter months are ideal for you. The temperature figures in the chart below are average values. In summer there can be days with maximum temperatures of up to 38 C (100 F).

FAQ #6) What is the current flow rate of the falls?
