Helicopter Adventure over the Iguassu Falls
Helicopter adventure? There are no words to describe the experience of flying over the Iguassu Falls in a chopper. This helicopter experience is something nobody visiting the Iguassu Falls should miss. It gives you a completely different and new perspective of the falls and its surroundings. To fly over them like a bird does is perhaps the best and only way to capture all the greatness of the Iguassu Falls in one single, brief and intense moment of your life. The helicopter adventure lasts a few minutes but it will stay with you forever!
If there is one moment in this family vacation getaway when you have to shoot photos this is it! The helicopter adventure gives you the opportunity to shoot unique photos of the Iguassu Falls unattainable anywhere else.
First comes the exiting waiting of your turn for takeoff in the small lobby of Helisul the chopper company that provides this service.
The takeoff and landing site is located a short distance from the Visitors Center of the Brazilian side of the Iguassu Falls. There is space for three passengers on each chopper flight; one passenger sits beside the pilot and the other two on the rear seats.
The passenger sitting on the front seat has the best view during the flight but all three positions are good for shooting pictures. The rear windows have small openings allowing you to shoot photos holding your camera outside the chopper, hold it tight if you don’t want to lose it!
At last, the flying machine arrives…
Boarding the helicopter is fast, easy and exiting.
Takeoff! And our helicopter adventure has started.
The first thing you see is the Visitors Center from above.
I took a picture of the jungle with my camera pointing straight forward so you can see how it looks like from here.
Straight ahead our helicopter adventure expedition is finally arriving to the Iguassu Falls.
It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and the reflex of the sunlight over the Iguassu River and the Devil’s Throat produced a hallucinating effect. Amusing beauty you will never forget!
The pilot flies in circles over the Falls several times so you can see them and picture them from every angle.
Here’s another view of the Devil’s Throat.
And here’s a view of the main Argentinean waterfalls, you can see San Martin Island and the San Martin waterfall (the second largest).
The standard helicopter flight over the Iguassu Falls lasts 10 minutes and costs USD 60 per person. It’s not cheap but worth every cent. You can also arrange longer special flights if you want a more detailed view of the Iguassu Falls, the National Park and the Itaipu Dam located a short distance away flying over the Parana River, Foz do Iguassu and Ciudad del Este.
