An Iguassu Falls Personal Travel Guide?

Do travelers need a personal travel guide when visiting Iguassu Falls?

It's not likely people will visit them more than once in a lifetime so there is a big chance yours will be your first and only occasion to experience this wonderful place. Then why not make good use of a local expert to get the most out of your travel opportunity?

Hello, my name is Lucas Antuna and I am committed in making Iguassu Falls visitors enjoy a memorable experience. If you want to know the advantage of visiting Iguassu Falls with me as your guide please read my Iguassu Falls Testimonies page for what my customers have to say about my services. Personal references are available upon request.

With or without a personal guide the Iguassu Falls are always memorable but there is much more to this extraordinary place than meets the eye. Of course there are the obvious attractions that all visitors to the falls get to know but an experienced personal guide will show them to you in an enlightened way that only a knowing local resident could show.

Then there are the not so obvious places to visit and that most visitors don't know about but that make a great trip turn into a fabulous one.

Finally you have to add the personal knowledge about the local people, their costumes and culture that most visitors never grasp but that make up to a deep understanding of this peculiar part of the world where three countries and four cultures converge making it so unique.

How can I make the difference?

Primarily making a better use of your limited time there. Nobody can afford to stay much time anywhere but how much is enough for Iguassu Falls? A minimum of three full days is needed but I recommend four full days for a thorough recognizance of the place. Remember, you most probably will be coming here only once in a lifetime. I can design your itinerary to pack your visit with many valuable and exciting experiences and since I will be personally transporting you everywhere you don't lose time finding out the how's, where's and when's.

Get to really know the place in comfort and without hassles

I will be your personal and private guide all the way with no strangers. If you are traveling alone, with your partner or family it will be only us and nobody else. I like to dedicate myself exclusively to my present customer and my vehicle cannot handle more than 4 persons plus me.

I can recommend you the best hotel according to your budget and personal needs and make the reservation for you, give you tips of which is the best city and airport for your arrival to Iguassu Falls (there are three possibilities) depending on where you are coming from, what other destinations you are visiting in South America or if you are making the falls your single travel destination. I will personally transfer you from and to the airport upon your arrival and departure.

What can we see and do in Iguassu Falls?

Fallowing is a sample of what we could experience together in the Iguassu Falls. Your itinerary is flexible and can be customized according to your interest and likes.

Day 1: Triple Frontier Landmark and Iguassu Falls to the Light of the Moon.

I pick you up at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. We do the hotel check-in and prepare for our initial tour. We are supposing you are lodging in the Argentine town of Puerto Iguazu and that your flight arrives there at 1:00 pm. Also, we planned your trip so it's synchronized with the full moon calendar to take advantage of a romantic escape to the falls during the night.

Making time for your night romantic excursion to the falls, during the afternoon we will visit the "Feria de Fiambres y Quesos" a fair in Puerto Iguazu with many outlets where we can taste delicious Argentine cheeses, sausages, smoked hams, olives and wines in an informal atmosphere. After that we will visit the Triple Frontier Landmark the place where Argentina's, Paraguay's and Brazil's frontiers converge and the waters of the Iguazu River pours into the mighty Parana River. The last hours of the afternoon are great for enjoying this breath taking natural scenery.

You can read about these experiences in my fallowing pages: Facts about Argentina in the Land of the Iguassu Falls and Popular Argentina Foods.

Note: The ferry boat tour to the Triple Frontier is a very interesting attraction loaded with a local flavor and a spectacular scenery, you can read about this tour in my Iguassu Falls ferry page.

At approximately 8 pm it's time for our night tour to the Iguassu Falls. We will move from your hotel to the Iguazu National Park Visitors Center.

This tour is personally supervised by the park rangers (they don't want anybody getting lost inside the park at night). We will travel in the tiny train of the jungle towards Devil's Gorge station and from there will walk an elevated 1.100 m (3.600 feet) long walkway over the upper Iguazu River to reach our final destination where we'll watch the largest waterfall of the Iguassu Falls system to the light of the moon.

We then return to the Visitors Center where we can dine at the La Selva restaurant. This tour has a separated fee of Pesos 50 (without diner) or Pesos 80 (with diner included, beverages not included) per person, that's around USD 17 and USD 27 respectively. I will buy in advance the tickets for this tour.

I bring you back to your hotel and end my services for the day.

You can read about the Devil's Gorge in my Curious Gorge page.

Day 2: Visiting the Brazilian Iguassu Falls.

This will be a full day tour visiting Brazilian Iguassu Falls and other local attractions. I will pick you up at the hotel at 9:00 am.

We will cross the Tancredo Neves Bridge from Puerto Iguazu to Foz do Iguacu and move straight to the Iguacu National Park for a panoramic view of the falls during the morning. Morning hours are the best for taking photographs in the Brazilian side of the falls.

Entrance tickets to the National Park cost USD 10 per person including transport inside the park and parking fee.

You can read about this exciting tour in my Brazil Adventure page.

Immediately after finishing our tour inside the Iguacu National Park we will fly on helicopter for an exhilarating view of the falls from above. This adrenaline charged 10 minute flight gives you a unique opportunity for photo shooting the falls. Price is USD 70 per person. It's costly but worth every penny!

To read about this tour please visit my Helicopter Adventure page.

After our helicopter adventure we will have lunch in Foz do Iguacu renowned Rafain restaurant with a flat fee of R$ 35 (USD 17) per person + beverages. Food and ambience is excellent in this self-served restaurant.

Next is visiting the Bird Park. This place is made of giant aviaries that you walk into for a direct contact with birds in their natural environment. It's an awesome experience and the most practical way to know the rich bird fauna of Iguassu Falls. The entry ticket costs USD 10 per person.

You can read about this tour in my Easy Bird Watching page.

Return to your hotel and end of my services for the day.

Day 3: A full day visiting Paraguayan Attractions. Monday Falls, Moises Bertoni's Reserve, Museum of the Guarani Land and Itaipu Zoo.

I will pick you up at the hotel at 9:00 am. We will cross the Iguazu and Parana Rivers on a ferry boat towards Paraguayan territory. This river crossing will give us a fantastic view of the Triple Frontier Landmark as seen from the river level.

Once inside Paraguay we will immediately drive into the Paraguayan country heartland through dirt roads towards the isolated Moises Bertoni Reserve.

We will visit the old hardwood house he lived in with his family which now is open as a museum and walk from there down to the shores of the Parana River for an impressive view of the wilderness that surrounds this area. We will encounter the Guarani natives living there in the same fashion as their ancestors have for centuries.

On our return trip we will also encounter typical Paraguayan farming settlements. All this will give you a unique view of Paraguay that very few international visitors ever have a chance to experience. Once back from Moises Bertoni Reserve we will have lunch at Pizza & Cia restaurant for the most delicious pizzas of the region made with a very personal and local recipe.

From there we will visit the Monday Falls which are smaller than the Iguassu Falls but not less impressive and finally visit the very interesting Museum of the Guarani Land and Itaipu Zoo for an encounter with the native culture and fauna of the Iguassu Falls.

You can read about the Paraguayan attractions in my Places to Visit in Paraguay page.

We will return crossing the Friendship Bridge to Brazil and the Tangredo Neves Bridge to Argentina and back to your hotel. End of my services for the day.

Day 4: A full day tour visiting Argentine Iguassu Falls.

I will pick you up at the hotel at 9:00 am and we will drive towards the Iguazu National Park. The entrance ticket to the National Park is USD 10 per person.

We will walk the upper, lower and Devil's Gorge circuits which give an extraordinary close-up of the falls. We will eat something during one of our breaks inside the National Park.

You will find information about this incredible tour in my Fun Facts About Argentina and Curious Gorge pages.

During our walking of the lower circuit we will take the river rafting excursion on a speed boat that runs the lower Iguassu River for a wet and very close encounter with the waterfalls from below.

The speed boat surrounds the San Martin Island making stops under some of the most important waterfalls on the left and right side of the island. The cost of this tour is of Pesos 40 per person or about USD 14 per person. This tour is hired on the spot.

After our river rafting experience we will visit the San Martin Island crossing the lower Iguazu River on boat and walking up to the top of this huge rock formation covered with lush vegetation.

We will watch the San Martin waterfall (the second largest of the Iguassu Falls system) and the "Escondido Fall". We will walk and bathe in the shores of this island surrounded by an impressive view of the falls as seen from below.

You can read my accounts about the San Martin Island in my San Martin page.

Return to the hotel and end of my services for the day.

This itinerary can be extended to a fifth day to include a shopping tour to Ciudad del Este's giant flea market and a fascinating walk of the Macuco Trail to the Arrechea waterfall. You can read about this in my Facts About Paraguay and Rain Forest Path pages.
